Art Statement
Jungeun Yoon is a Korean-Australian contemporary artist currently based in Singapore. Having lived in diverse cultural landscapes, her work explores the nuances of cultural diversity and the perspective of a migrant through a unique fusion of traditional materials and contemporary techniques.
Yoon’s practice visualizes the 'accumulation and flow of time' on canvas through repetitive and labor-intensive processes, such as layering, taping, and scratching. Whether through the rhythmic repetition of 7mm monolines or the delicate act of cutting and inlaying mother-of-pearl (Nacre), she creates a poetic space of healing within the canvas.
Her work serves as a meditative record of time, where the materiality of the surface meets the intangible traces of memory and existence.
